Original Oil "The Monastery" Painting – Crystal Lake

Painted by an aspiring middle-school art student. "The Monastery" is a place where people separate themselves from ordinary ways of living to follow the teachings of their religion as completely as possible. The peaceful surroundings persuaded me to paint a monastery located in Spain's countryside.

My main focus is to create a 3-D effect with the landscaping in the forefront and the rectangular tower in the background. Oil paints can be layered to create a 3-D effect. Features of this painting include detailed brick on the tower, multi-colored leaves on the bushes, and realistic looking moss on the tree bark.

The painting measures 23x29 including the frame. The canvas measures 19x25.
